A Case of Surgical Closure of CSF Rhinorrhea Using a Mucoperiosteal Flap of Middel Turbinate under Nasal Endoscopy

Abstract
Cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) rhinorrhea may have many causes, and it always represents a risk of meningitis or brain abscess. For this reason, cerebrospinal fluid leak must be managed. The large number of motor vehicle accidents, skull base surgery
and
paranasal sinus surgery have increased the number of patients presenting with cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea. Cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea was managed previously through the intracranial approach. However, it has been reported high morbidity.
Nowadays, several extracranial techniques have been developed by using a either with a tissue graft of muscle and fascia, and fascia, and a mucosal, mucoperiosteal flap or osteo-mucoperiosteal flap of the middle turbinate, septum, and lateral
nasal
wall
under nasal endoscopy.
The authors have experienced a case of iatrogenic cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea from frontal area which was repaired successf lly with mucoperiosteal flap of middle turbinate under nasal endoscopy. Therefore, we presented the case with review of
the
literatures. (Korean J Otolaryngo1 39 : 6, 1996)
